Three straight
days without sleeping a wink and I've had it! I headed for the doctor today and
had my self checked. I had been quite surprised that she wanted me to have a
CBC. This isn't my first insomniac episode and I was quite surprised with the test
and to be honest, I couldn't think of any connection. Wise doctor, wanted to
rule out Anemia for the cause. And Anemia it was. Anemia is a decrease in normal number of red blood cells (RBCs)
or less than the normal quantity of hemoglobin in
the blood. I have been anemic for most
of my grade school life and that have caused my breathing problem. As you see it
can include decreased oxygen-binding ability of each hemoglobin molecule due to
deformity or lack in numerical development as in some other types of hemoglobin deficiency. Because hemoglobin (found inside RBCs) normally carries oxygen from the lungs to the tissues, anemia leads to hypoxia (lack of oxygen) in organs.
Because all human cells depend on oxygen for
survival, varying degrees of anemia can have a wide range of clinical
consequences.(source: Wikipedia.org). And
I just found those out during my little research after the doctor’s
appointment. This is rather alarming and not to mention the fact that the
doctor effectively scared me enough to agree to the 325mg-daily iron
supplement. She said if I wouldn't do it then I might need blood transfusion or Iron intravenous (IV). It was pretty scary. As far as I know I don’t want both. But
what to do if my body is intolerant to iron? Well, I really can’t do much for
now but drink that little tablet that has 325mg of my choice of drug( a little
sarcasm here). Until further nausea, follow up, doctor’s appointment and
research, I swear to abide to the doctor’s instructions.
