Baguio is Baguio! This is probably
the only place in the Philippines
where you get to experience a colder weather and urban amenities at the same
time. I’m from Mindanao and we have Bukidnon
with Baguio-esque weather, a very big area at that, but there are no malls, no
hotels, no mainstream restaurants. I had a lot of fun in my really short stay
at Baguio. We
got to visit almost all of the attraction this wonderful place had to offer. We
went to Camp John Hay, that Lion landmark near Kennon Road, Burnham
Park, Minesview Park
among others. We also went boating on that big pond, biking and got street side
massages in Burnham park. We visited their market around nine or ten in
the morning and the buds in the flower bouquets are still very much closed,
which reminds me of sleeping fairies inside their houses. Their vegetables are
also very very fresh, you’d know because they are so rich in color and taste,
and boy they are big! The flowers and the vegetables are only a side attraction
because if you go to Baguio,
you will mostly only think of their superstar crop – the strawberries! Baguio is the only source
of strawberries in the market, while other places have tried to grow these
berries, but they don’t produce enough to make it into the bigger markets.
We’ve visited the strawberry farms in the region and for someone who rarely get
her hands on them, this is paradise. We had so much fun picking out the berries
ourselves. Ive always dreamt of homemade strawberries and creams and I made it
a point to make it come true and it was all worth it! Carrying the strawberries
here in Cebu and to CDO is no easy feat, these
beauties bruise easily but we made the sacrifices so we can share this rare
opportunity. If given the chance I would really want to go back to Baguio and stay there
longer too.
